George Strong
George Strong was born c. 1660 in Chard, Somerset, England. He was the father of John Strong and the Grandfather of Elder John Strong who was the first member of this family to arrive in the New World in 1635.

I George Strong of the parishe of Chard....tayler.... I give unto THOMAS STRONG MY SONNE 6 shillings 8 pence. I give unto JOHN STRONGE MY GRANDCHILD, 6 shillings 8 pence. I give unto WILLIAM STRONG MY GRANDCHILD, 20 poundes due to me from George Cookney and Nicholas Staple.... I give unto the said William Strong ffive pewter platters, two pondgers, one bason, ffower sawcers, two saltsellers, and two brasse candelsticke. I give unto MARIE STRONG MY GRANDCHILD DAUGHTER of WALTER STRONG MY SONNE, 10 poundes which Thomas Parris oweth me....and more I give her my best brasse crocke, and my lesser brasse pann. I give unto JOANE STRONG, DAUGHTER of the said WALTER STRONG, 10 poundes. I give unto ELIZABETH STRONG, DAUGHTER of the said WALTER STRONG, 10 poundes. I give and bequeath unto my said SON WALTER STRONG whome I make, and ordayne sole executor of this my last will and testement. Elder John Strong
John Strong was born about 1609, at Chard, Somerset, England the son of John Strong of Chard, and Grandson of George Strong also of Chard. John and his family sailed for New England on May 8, 1635 from Weymouth aboard the 'Hopewell.' They settled in Higham MA where he was granted five acres of land on September 18, 1635. His first wife Margery Deane, died there in 1635. They had two children, John Jr and a child who died in infancy.
He married his second wife Abigail Ford in 1635. She had arrived in 1630 with her parents Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Chard Cooke aboard the “Mary and John”. They had come from Dorset, England with the Rev. John White who has been called the “founder of Massachusetts”.
John moved his family to Tauton MA circa 1638 where he bought a house on Dean Street. Here John was made the first Constable in 1638 and again 1639.
The Puritans and Pilgrims from Massachusetts, soon obtained a knowledge of the fertility of the soil on the Connecticut River, and both laid claim to territory, yet hesitated for awhile in making any settlement. Finally, however, in October, 1633 a small vessel sailed from Plymouth. When they had sailed up the river to the location of the present city of Hartford, they found the Dutch had gotten there before them, and had erected a fort.
The Dutch forbade them to advance and threatened to fire upon them. The English ignored the threats and sailed right past them! They landed at a spot within the limits of the present town of Windsor, and built a trading-house there.
The next movement towards settling Connecticut was in July, 1635, when at Wethersfield a settlement was made. This settlement is about 10 miles south, or closer to the coast, than Windsor had been. Since Windsor was just a trading post, Wethersfield, then was the first English settlement in Connecticut.
Plymouth trading-house was the next settlement in the summer of 1635, by people from Dorchester. They gave the settlement the name of Windsor. By 1647 John Strong had removed to Windsor CT where he bought about 4 acres of land with his father-in-law, Thomas Ford. This included a house, outhouse, yards, orchards and gardens.
In 1660 John moved to Northampton, MA were he was granted several parcels of land including a tan yard. The yard was on King Street Brook and contained one quarter acre.The town by vote directed all hides be taken to him to be tanned at his own price “because of his reputation for honesty.” He was ordained an Elder of the Church in 1663.
Around 1672 Thomas Ford, John’s Father-in-Law, moved to Northampton. Before this he had been living in Hartford CT were, among other things, he had run an Inn in the Scott house. He died on November 28, 1676 in Northampton.
John and Abigail lived their remaining years in Northampton as well. Abigail died in 1688 and John died in 1699. He had 18 children and 145 grandchildren. John and Abigail are burried at the Bridge Street Cemetery.
Rev John Strong
John Strong was born in Coventry CT the Great Great Grandson of Elder John Strong. He moved to Cochecton, PA where in 1775 he married Lydia Thomas. John was a soldier in the Revolution and served with the CT militia in July 1779 when the British invaded New Haven. Nathan Hale, who was hung by the British as a spy in 1776, was John's cousin. He was driven from his home twice by Indians. They moved to Sharon, VT., 1779, Milton, Saratoga, NY and finally to Northmoreland, Wyoming, PA., in 1801 where he died.
Zeruiah Ruey Strong
Ruey was born April 14, 1825 in Northumberland Pa. She was the Grandaughter of Rev. John Strong and the daughter of John III. Ruey married Daniel Wells in 1841 and they lived on a Farm in New Era until Daniels death in 1878. After that she lived with her children untill her death in 1893.
