We Make History offers authentic historic events such as Grand Balls, historical reenactments and "in character" speeches and presentations of famous persons from history. We are particularly known for our historic dances, each of which is set during a certain time period such as Colonial, Regency, Civil War or Victorian. We occasionally hold multi-era events as well and our American Heritage Weekend is the largest multi-era reenacting event to take place in the Southwest.
Our large group of We Make History participants have attended from all over the American West including Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Texas, New Mexico, California and of course, nearly every corner of Arizona. We have even had persons travel from as far away as New York, North Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin.
We are historical reenactors, homeschooling families, couples, singles, high school and college students, church groups, educators, political figures, business owners, ballroom, ballet and folk dancers and other enthusiastic people looking for the elegant, formal and respectful experience of another century. The majority dress historically as per the period setting of the particular event but at our Balls those in modern evening attire are always welcome as well.
Why do we do this? Our desire is to provide wholesome recreational opportunities for couples and families, to respark interest in and reconnect people to our glorious history and wonderful cultural heritage and to create an atmosphere and environment where a level of grace, manners and gentility are expected and exercised which are at a much higher level than the current culture around us. Also, of course, we very much enjoy history, fashion, pageantry and dance!
