The 1996 Pony Express Tour

As part of our fundraising efforts, we also joined the Women's Motorcyclist Foundation(WMF) in raising money for research for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The WMF's Pony Express Tour '96 was a country-wide motorcycle run that took place this last summer. Sue Slate and Gin Shear were national co-chair of the Pony Express Tour. This ride, co-sponsored by BMW of North America, started in Missouri and looped around the United States, linking Motorcyclists from around the nation.
Pony Express Logo 30 of our members attended the Pony Express Ride-In at BMW Headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey on July 14, 1996. Our club raised over $10,300. for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and we rode as a club in support of principal rider, Diane Sackett Nannary. Diane, a postal worker who is a breast cancer survivor, personally conducted a letter writing campaign that resulted in over 800,000 letters to the postmaster general requesting a postage stamp to promote breast cancer research for a cure. At BMW headquarters she showed the cancelled first issue of the stamp which will appear soon. The Spokes-Women rode with her to Monroe, New York. At Monroe, one of our members, Carol Pieretti, was the principal rider from there to Kingston, New York. She personally had raised over $5000. The club members also rode with her to Kingston.
