Charles VI - Habsburg, Catholic ruler of Austria (and Slovakia) from 1711 to 1740. A Habsburg who set the empire on a course toward royal absolutism. He had no son and wanted his daughter, Maria Theresa, to succeed him. He brought Hungary permanently under the rule of the Habsburgs and Austria. Hungary only became free if Charles' line died out entirely. (12, p. 79)
