RECAP (As best as I could, I am baby sitting a few [4 to 8 depending, 1 is mine! lol] kids AGAIN, today so bear with me!) Remember all recaps are linked off my 1998 page.

***** GREEN, GREEN, GREEN, GO, GO, GO...
***** #44 Kyle Petty is climbing fast hes up to 24th,  14 laps into the race! Started 41st
***** #28 Kenny Irwin, Lap 32, having engine problems.  Running on 7 cylinders.  Lower end unrepairable.  This will make a big difference in the Rookie of The Year Championship.
***** CAUTION #1 Lap 53-- As leaders were pitting -- #7 Geoff Bodine tapped into Buckshot then there was Contact between #90 Dick Trickle and #00 Buckshot Jones, Trickle spun.  #26 Johnny Benson Dove through the grass on pit road to avoid the wreck.  - Dale Jarrett took over the lead as Gordon came in to pit.  Prior to the caution.  the leaders were able to pit, the group that came in during the caution have to start after the cars that pitted JUST prior to the caution (did that make sense?  LOL)  Rusty was going down pit road, his spotters yelled caution and he went back out rather than pitting, lost a lot of track positions.
***** GREEN, Restart Lap 58
***** Gordon is all the way back to 23rd, probably those 2 tires he got, ESPN said.
***** Lap 98-A lot of fluid all over windshields,  coming from #88 Dale Jarrett or #31 Mike Skinner.
***** Lap 99-#9 Jerry Nadeau is off the track :(
***** Lap 104- #1 Steve Park is coming in behind the wall, oil presure went to ZERo.
Thats all the rookies except Kevin Lapage.
*****  GREEN Flag pits begin, Gordon and T Labonte came in together.
***** Lap 109 #50 Wally Dallenbach, car slowing down, out of gas.
- Kenny Wallace lost his motor.
***** Lap 110 #71  Dave Marcis hit debris and  has debris falling of the front end of his car.
***** Lap 111 #33 Kenny Schrader has right side damage from debris he hit.
***** CAUTION #2 Lap 113-- Finally the caution came out...Gordon goes to the tail end of th lead lap, as does #5 Terry Labonte, #4 Bobby Hamilton, #43 John Andretti and #40 Sterling Marlin.
#2 car has the hood up-hit debris, lost the radiator.
- Ernie Irvan has no brakes.  They clamped off the broken brake line and hes back out.
***** GREEN, Restart Lap 119
***** CAUTION #3 Lap 137-- #36 Ernie Irvan (but on a back board and removed from the car, he was airlifted immediatly to a Birmignham hosp. (We're all Praying for you Ernie) He was talkin' so that is a good sign, God Bless ya Ernie. #16  Kevin Lepage,  #6 Mark Martin.  #90 Dick Trickle was assisted to the ambulance, he is okay, said his feelings were hurt mostly.  #3 Dale Earnhardt front and rear damage, #22 Ward Burton alot of damage,  #21 Michael Waltrip, #26 Johnny Benson, #50 Wally Dallenbach, and #40 Sterling Marlin were all involved in this "Big Wreck"
Mark Martin was caught up, as he was coming around to pit, he blew a tire in turn 3, spun in the grass.  had to go behind the wall for sheet metal work.
Mark Declined to interview (they should not ask so fast after something like this IMHO)    Follow Jayski's (www.jayski.com) site I am will to bet he will have updates on Ernie.
Mark Martin said He is happy to walk out of Dega', but he is disappointed, He commented if they had more than 4 of these type races a year he would find something else to do.  (sad) Mark said This isn't racin', he is visibly upset about Ernie.  Skills and experience just don't work on this type of track, this isn't "Just Racin".  Mark might come back out, HOPE SO!
This is FRUSTRATION, not racing!!  It's an accident waiting to happen!  And when it does happen, there's no place to go!
***** GREEN, Restart Lap 143
***** CAUTION #4Lap 147 Brake fluid on the track from Steve Grissom, he lost a brake rotor in the big wreck.
***** GREEN, Restart Lap 150
***** Lap 171 Jeff Green just got the black flag???
***** Lap 175 #3 Dale Earnhard lost rear end gear. Shame, Dales Comment "This restrictor Plate racin', just jambed up on top of each other."
***** Dale Jarrett Win's The NO BULL MILLION!!!!!  Todd Parrot crew cheif in tears!
***** The first 5 finishers will be next seasons Daytona 500 NO BULL Contender's.  Dale Jarrett, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, Jimmy Spencer and Jeremy Mayfield.

=====

Tid Bits from ESPN2 and me...
- #47 Billy Standrige, #77 Robert Pressley, #23 Jimmy Spencer, #97 Chad Little and #98 Rich Bickle all Reportedly qualified in last years T-birds
- Jeremy Mayfield is blonde! no white! No Blonde....The car got to hot, the engine slowed down. The front looked completely blocked off. Stilled puller of a good time of 49.724sec's, 192.583 mph with just 1 lap.
- The #43 John Andretti car looks neat, STP orange with purple.
- Ted Musgrave said he will be in the #75 car next season, I guess that leaves Rick Mast to go to #13?
- Rick Mast said nothing is in concrete for him yet for next year.
- Rick Wilson in the #41 car for this week in Dega and also in Daytona next week. Rick said he is looking for a full time ride for 1999.
- Kenny Wallace is in the #81 Square-D Lightning Car.
- #42 Joe Nemechek in a new paint scheme, This car was the one advertised for the July Daytona race.
- Ernie Irvan in the WILD BERRY Car. Looks WILD! Fruit Basket as ESPN2 said.
- Geoff Bodine going for his 500th start, check out the helmets of G. Bodine @ http://www.angelfire.com/fl/bogey/index.html. Geoff said he felt this car could win. Would be neat 500th start and a win!
- Really bad fumes and smoke inside the #50 car od Wally Dallenbach, apparently very toxic, when Wally attempted to get in twice, his face got all red and eyes tears up immediatly. Then while he was attempting to qaul. hs window neat broke and fell down. He had come back in. Then he went out again and shut it off? Puff off smoke, He will have to try again tomorrow. Wally said somethin' under the hood, not sure what.
- - #18 Bobby Labonte in The SMALL Soldiers- Interstate Batteries Car. WOW he had 2nd on his first lap! and kept 2nd with his 2nd attempt, Close (but no cigar, as Monica Lewisky would say )
- Sterling Marlins #40 Coor's Light car looks different also?
- #00 Buckshot Jones was 4th in practice, with Stavola (possible Morgan for 1999) and a Hendrick motor, his 1st lap gave him 17th, his 2nd lap gave him 10th!
- Darrell Waltrip Quote, "If it runs as good as I look we'll be fine"!!! - 1972 was DW's first race at Dega'.
- With 5 races to go, in 1985, Bill Elliot had the points lead by a slim 20 points over DW. DW Won the Championship by 101 points.
- Morgan-McClure might field a second team, Lake Speed, Geoff Bodine or Jerry Nadeau is the rumor for the driver? (I understand (hope and Pray!) Jerry to be going with Melling when contract is resolved with #13 Elliot/Marino car)
- Michael Waltrip to #7 (sources tell me this is NOT Official yet) He will announce his 1999 Winston Cup plans on RPM2Nite in Daytona, Monday October 12th at 7pm.
- IROC will return to Talladega on April 24, 1999.
- Buckshot Jones, Tony Stewart and Elliott Sadler will be Rookie of The Year contenders in 1999, so far that I know of.
I have some VERY hungrey kids here, were off to McDonald's to eat and play in the playground Yippie, see ya tomorrow! (If I survive)
- #98 Rich Bickle car has the "Gone Grill Crazy" Scheme,,,,Thorn Apple Valley is not going to be on The Cale Yarborough Ford next season.
- The Stovola Bros are talking to some sponsors and Lake Speed, Morgan Shepard (though I still hear Morgan is tring to start his own team #05) and Geoff Bodine. about driving in 1999.
- 1998 ARCA Points Leader Frank Kimmel is rumored to be a candidate for the #41 Larry Hedrick Kodiak Chevy in 1999. Also his ARCA team may attempt a Cup race in 1999. http://jayski.com/
- Ward Burton is not leaving #22 (again) Caterpillar going with Burton, and the Bill Davis Team for 1999.
- Jeff Gordon say's Dale Earnhardt is the one to watch Sunday in The WINSTON 500! Dale and Jeff both are up for the NO BULL Million, Jeff has won the past 2, also Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett and Jeremy Mayfield are in contention.
- Speaking of J. Burton and Mayfield, they have there own points race going, Jeff Burton is in 5th just 71 points ahead of 7th Place Mayfield, in between is Bobby Labonte 68 points behind.
Manufactures Points Championship is a tie between Chevy and Ford at 201 points and 13 wins each. Jeff Gordon is responsible for 144 of Chevy's points.
================================

Dale Earnhardt said "We are just tring to bring the best piece to the track", NASCAR Inspectors took exception with the rear deck lid of the #3 GM Goodwrench Chevy and confiscated it from the team. After missing approx. 3 hrs of practice because he couldn't pass inspection, something with the spoiler and the bondo on the rear end. Dale starts 14th as a NO BULL Contender
Read ALL About it here......

With the #3 finally through 3hr's in tech we asked car owner Richard Childress about the process of getting his car through inspection. Through very tight jaws Childress replied, "We try to keep them (NASCAR) happy - but sometimes that's hard. I just wish they'd be more consistent --- that's all."
