The purpose of this
site is to bring together, in one place, information and
entertainment on motorcycle touring and travel. In it I will point the reader
to tips and techniques, events and places to ride, with particular attention paid
to rides in North Carolina. I also have some original articles I wrote while serving
as the Education Officer for GWRRA Chapter VA-A, which remain relevant.
I ride a 1998
black Honda Goldwing GL1500, and my wife, Olivia, rides a 1998
black Yamaha Virago 1100. While some safety related
information is presented, the author is not a safety expert nor a
safety professional. Use it at your own risk! All the articles
Wade and Olivia have written are publically available, just
remember to give them a credit in your piece. On the other hand,
if you get a great idea from one of the linked sites, you'll have
to fight with the author of that site, but most seem willing
enough to grant you permission.
In October 2006 we moved from our
home of 20+ years in Northern Virginia to Raleigh, North Carolina to be nearer to
our grand daughter as she grows up. Riding in North Carolina presents its own
challenges and pleasures, not the least of which is year round riding. With gas
prices being what they are today, riding a motorcycle for those little errands makes
more sense than ever. So, now that things have settled down after the move,
I wanted to update the web site with North Carolina specific information. I hope
ya'all enjoy it, and that you find it useful!
Whether you agree
with me or not, I want to hear your ideas. So, please e-mail me. I'd like to hear from you about ideas for
future lines of research. Also, please sign my Guest Book below.

Now, a word about
helmets:
I wear a helmet at
all times while riding, and suspect that most GWRRA members do.
Of course, in North Carolina it is a legal requirement. But more than
that, there are ample reasons to do so for reducing the risk of
injury in the event of an accident. While GWRRA wants you to have
fun, part of that fun is doing smart things that reduce (not
eliminate) your risk. The Hurt
Report
(findings 44-53) refutes much of the anti-helmet rhetoric that
you may hear from time to time. I particulary like a helmet which has been
certified by the Snell Memorial Foundation. I use a closed face
helmet because it keeps rocks and large insects from hitting my
face, and adds to my overall comfort while riding. You may decide
on a different style of helmet. A newer style of helmet provides full face
protection when riding, but the face can be raised to take a drink of water
without removing the helmet. Olivia has this type, and really likes it.
Ride Safe, keep the
shiny side up, and please enjoy this website!!
