You see, there are like, well, maybe not a million, but it seems like there are a million, wolf sites. OK, I just did a search for "wolves" and came up with 33,668 hits. That's a lot of wolves. So with all those wolf sites out there it's kind of disappointing that there are not more wolf photos.

I have a LOT of wolf photos. In fact, I have so many that I could probably supply those 33,668 hits with wolf photos if I had the time. And of course I can take more (I do so almost every day!)

Lots of people keep writing to me about using this or that photo from the Wolf Park web site. That's all well and good, but if everybody were to use the main header photos from the Wolf Park site, then we would be right back where we started. Everybody using the same old photos.

Another thing is that many servers are offering people free web site space. Some are more generous than others. Some are quite stingy. Some of you out there may have a site on such a stingy server. Well, the Wolf Park site is located on a machine with unlimited (well for all practical purposes unlimited) space, but very limited bandwidth and we really can't afford to have people link directly and reference the images there. It would just like screw up the whole machine - people constantly just referencing this or that photo. We would need a T3 connection for that!

SO!   I thought I would make this photo resource site. If you have not already noticed it's on AOL. I know everybody hates AOL, but there's no bandwidth problems (to speak of anyway) so those of you who wish to do so, feel free to reference away. Just keep in mind that I may have to move photos around from time to time so let me know ASAP if a photo is no longer there/working and I'll let you know how to fix it.

Of course most of you simply want the image on your own machine so here are the...

Rules And Regulations:

  • These photographs are ALL copyrighted -- like © stuff and all. They are the property of Monty Sloan and Wolf Park. You MUST ask permission from me to use them. You can use them for wallpaper, you can use them for personal screen savers (any commercial people - I would love to work with you :-)   However you really need to write me a note and ask - I won't ever know, but it is like a nice thing to do.
  • You can ALSO of course use these images for web pages!  Now there you definitely have to write for permission because if you don't I'll send Miska out to get you and he pinches REALLY hard and has been in a pretty rotten mood ever since his brother became the alpha male and he wants that position and well so he is just not very happy with life in general so you DON'T want to mess with him right now because it would really hurt. It would hurt even more than that last sentence!
  • So, you write to get permission to use one of my photos, or a whole bunch, I don't care which, on your web site. Well, here are the specific rules:

    1. I need your URL. I need it so I can make sure your site is not well, weird or something. So far I've liked all the sites where people have wanted to add my photos, but now that I'm going public with this who knows what will happen. I don't want something like the Farm Bureau wanting a yawning wolf photo to pretend to show how nasty wolves are or something like that.

    2. OK, I like your site and so you can use the wolfie photos. Well, there are some requirements. I need two things. One is a link back to the Wolf Park site and the other is an e-mail link to my e-mail account so if somebody likes the photo on your site, they can contact me directly about it. A lot of my photos have been "stolen" on the Internet and as far as I can tell, they were rarely ever taken directly from the Wolf Park site. They were taken from other sites that were using my photos. So if I have contact info on the site where where they are used then maybe this will help and who knows, maybe someone like National Geographic will be e-mailing me about a wolf article or something :-)

    3. Each page which has one of my photos needs at the very least this:

      Photo &copy; <a href="mailto:wolfparkphoto@aol.com"> Monty Sloan</a> / <a HREF="http://www.wolfpark.org"> Wolf Park</a>

      or I would prefer:

For permission to use or for more information about wolf photographs please write <a href="mailto:wolfparkphoto@aol.com">Monty Sloan </a> / <a HREF="http://www.wolfpark.org">Wolf Park</a>

    4. Wolf Park LogoIf at all possible I would like this small version of the Wolf Park logo to be a hot link to the Wolf Park site just like this one here.

You can even just reference this little photo. All you would need to do is insert the text:

      <A HREF="http://www.wolfpark.org"> <IMG SRC="http://members.aol.com/wolfpark/ Wolf_Photos/WPlogo.JPG" WIDTH="68" HEIGHT="106" BORDER="0" ALT="Wolf Park Logo"></A>

Hey, don't retype it just cut and paste!

    5. You can also do this type of reference with any of the images. You will just want the IMG SRC= bit just like you would if it was on your own site, but instead of just the file name, you put in the complete URL inside the quotes. Because AOL has the annoying 2mb per screen name limitation, the images are on any number of different sites -- so keep this in mind. Just make sure that you get the URL perfectly correctly (capitalization is as important as spelling) and that you figure out what the width and height of the image are or it will come out looking really weird. You can actually leave the width and height out, but that may take your site longer to load. The ALT= can be anything, but I would prefer that you type in © Monty Sloan / Wolf Park.

    6. If you want to alter any of the photos by changing the size, adding fancy stuff like a frame or drop shadow that is OK. However, you may need to at put the © Monty Sloan text back on. If you are making an icon or something tiny out of one of the pictures, you will need to put "Image © Monty Sloan" as the text description of the image -- you know, that ALT="" command. So it should be something like: <IMG SRC="Your_favorite_wolf.JPG" WIDTH="SOMETHING" HEIGHT="SOMETHING ELSE" BORDER="PUT YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER HERE" ALT="Photo &copy; Monty Sloan">

Now you do know just to cut and paste the ALT="" bit right?

    7. Without express permission you can not alter the image in any way outside of framing, cropping and resizing or you will have to see Miska again.

So, if this is all within your parameters of acceptability for general picture use you can now proceed and like, click here. If not, well, you can click here anyway. You can at least enjoy the photos :-)
