Tackling Crime
Marie Rimmer outlines what local action has been taken in the fight against crime and anti social behaviour.
From April to October 2005 action taken includes
652 alcohol seizures
22 alcohol fixed penalty notices
185 breach of the peace orders
255 drunk and disorderly
417 public order act offences
18 anti social behaviour orders (40% of people breaching an order go to jail)
Co operation between local pubs to bar and publicly shame the culprits causing a nuisance via public display of pictures.
Marie said" The Council is also clamping down on empty and neglected properties by increasing council tax on these properties from 50% to 90%.The Council also intend to contact the owners of these properties to find out what they intend to do to make the property presentable and liveable. If no action is taken by the owners after a specified time the council can compulsory purchase the property."
