Water tell residents not to use washing machines when it rains
because sewers are inadequate.
Lincolnshire's
Metheringham villagers like many others in the Anglian Water Region
have called for overdue improvements to their aging sewer system.
Extensive housing development in the village means the sewers cannot
cope with the additional load at peak times. Improvements in the
near future seem unlikely as recent surveys by Anglian Water have
resulted in customers being told not to use washing machines when it
is raining. Sewage is coming back up the pipes in periods of heavy
rain. According to the Water Company improvements are on the card
but the work could not be completed before 2003
21st Century village struggling to meet 19th Century
sewage standards.
Residents have been scathing at this advice and draw
attention to the inadequacies of the companies service. Villager
Brian Web told the local paper that the Metheringham sewer system
did not meet the needs of a 21st Century village adding
that it struggled to meet 19 Century standards. He warned that there
would be third world condition with sewage in the streets if
improvements were not made soon.
Anglian Water under pressure.
Waterwatch regularly receive protests from
communities concerned about the service they receive from Anglian
Water. Clearly major works are necessary right across the region,
perhaps this is why we are seeing a split up of what is now called
Anglian Water Group. The parent company facing looming expensive
problems are threatening to sell of the utility service responsible for the
pipes sewers and water works.
