The Lollipoppers started off the day by skating a short race loop. The first place girl finisher was Jessica Horst of Prospect Mountain.

The J5 skiers started their 1 kilometer race by double poling uphill. Here is a photograph of Karmen Whitham demonstrating a good double poling technique. This J5 skier has a nice skating form, similar to Bill Koch himself. Other participants in the J5 race include Jesse Noel, Fritz Horst, and Helen Sharkey. The winners of the Boys' J5 Race were Sam Blazejewski and Steve Bedard (both from Berkshire Massachusetts BKL League) in a close competition for first and second place.

In the J4 class, both the girls and boys divisions had full fields of strong skiers.

The J3 class, included a large contingent from the Stratton Mountain Academy. Here, Kevin Whitham of Prospect Mountain and an unidentified skier from Stratton Mountain compete in a double poling duel at the start. Allison Crocker from Stratton was the first place girl finisher.
