This Rev. John⁷ Sherman's parents were Edmund⁶ and Joan (Makin) Sherman.

"7. Rev. John⁷ Sherman, b. Dedham, 26 Dec. 1613, bap. 4 Jan. 1614 (Reg. 24, p.66); great preacher and controversial fig. of New Eng.; A. B. Trinity, Cambridge,l629; A.M. , l633. Persecuted as a Puritan, he fled with other Shermans and sailed from England in the ”Elizabeth” (Chas.Pomeroy Sherman, Sherman Genealogy, 1922, Phila. Pa.). From t h e Watertown ch., Rev. John went to Wethersfield ,Conn.; to Milford, Conn., on list of free planters, 20 Nov.1639; Milford ch., 8 Nov.1640; one of 5 magistrates chosen by Gen. Ct., New Haven Colony, 24 Nov.1640;  dismissed from Milford ch. 8 Nov.1647; became 3d minister, Watertown, freeman 19 May 1669; d. 8 Aug. l685, aged 72; bu. East Watertown, Mass. Epitaph: (Watertown Epitaphs, E. D. Harris).

“Sacred to the memory of John Sherman a man distinguished for his piety, character and truth; a profound theologian; as a preacher a veritable Chrysostom; unsurpassed in his knowledge of the liberal arts, particularly mathematics; a faithful pastor of the Church of Watertown in New England; an Overseer and Fellow of Harvard College.

After a life of faithful service to Christ in the Church for upwards of 45 years, in the fullness of time he passed away and received from Christ the palm of victory. In the 72d year of his age, August 8, A.D.1685”.

3. Daniel⁸ Sherman, b.l6 Mar.1642; sea captain; m. Abiah Street Sept.1664; he d.1716; had 8 children.

4. Samuel⁸Sherinan, b. 14 Apr. 1644.

Rev. John⁷Sherman  m. (2) Mary Launce, da. of John Launce. She was des. from Edward I (ante p. l8). Her mother, as wid. of Sydrach Sympson  (m. before 18 Jan.1639, date of Philip[pa] Hayne’s will, she sister of Mrs. Sympson) in May on the e 29th, 1668 made will, pr. 4 Aug. 1669 (Coke, 99) as Isabella Simpson, London, left to sons James Launce, Darcy Launce…” my daughter Mary Sherman have thartine 30 pounds ...cawdle silver cup with silver porringer, a ring with 3 diamonds...one silver spoon...my watch... what money is left my son Launce’s children and daugh­ter Mary Sherman’s children those not married... to my son Sherman 5 pounds and the half of my books with the great bible I read, his name is writ in it... [these wills are all in Waters Gleanings, op. cit.].

Will of Rev.John⁷Sherman, dated 6 Aug. l685, pr. 6 Oct. l685, mentions wife, Mary, son [in-law] Samuel Willard. For ch. of first wife: £12; ch. of son Bezaleel , dec., £10; Dau. , Mary Allen, sons Daniel;  Samuel; dau. , Mary Barron; other ch., James, John, Abiah , Elizabeth, Hester, Grace, Mercy;  son James, Exec. Mary (Launce) Sherman, d. Watertown, 9 Mar. 1710 (Bond’s Watertown , p. 432).

Edith Bean 21 June 1905.  Anson F.¹⁶  Sherman m. Edna Schulz 14 Apr. 1929. He is Executive V.P., Cashier, Citizens Bank, Arcade, N.Y.  Marianne^l7 Sherman,  Mt. Holyoke College, l953, m. (l) Anton Neuberger  26 Sep. 1953;  div. 27 Dec.1960; m. [2] 20 May 1961 Melvin Theodore Rindfleisch, native of Buffalo, N.Y. They have an ad­opted daughter, Melissa Anne Rindfleisch. Mrs. Rind­fleisch is active in D.A.R.; Col. Dames of XVII Century.
