From: "Transatlantic Shermans" Bertha L. Stratton, 1969, p. 150, private printing, LOC Card No. 76-89997 9. Samuel7Sherman, b.12 July 1618 (Ibid.), came to New England and was ancestor of Gen. Wm. Tecumseh Sherman among others. He was active in public affairs, a leader in New Haven Colony. While first of Watertown (was around 14. years old when emigrated) he went in or about 1636 to Wethersfield, Conn.; later to Stratford, Stamford and Fairfield, Conn. Was an Assistant (Lt. Gov.) 1660-65; on comm. to assist in rendering the Colony safe against the Dutch in 1665. He is referred to as Hon. Samuel Sherman. He m. Mary Mitchell (dau. of Matthew and Sarah (Butterfield) Mitchell sister of Jonathan Mitchell, of Cambridge, a Fellow of Harvard, she was bap. S. Owram, Halifax, Yorks. England, 14 Oct. l62l. He d. Fairfield, 5 Ap. 1700 (G. S.). An agreement between his surviving children and. heirs in division of estate took place 10 Sep. 1700 (Matthew8and Edmund8, dec.) His other children were: Samuel8, Theophilus8, John8, Sarah8, Nathaniel8, Benjamin8, David 8. From John8 Sherman, Admiral Fredrick16 C. Sherman takes his decent through Samuel9, David10, Matthew11, Judson12, A1bert13, Loren14, Frederickl5 Ward Sherman (who m. Charlot Wolfe). Adm. Sherman m.
