CyberBugs Minibeast e-Magazine
MINIBEAST WORLD (formerly Insect World) is an informal magazine filled with fun and facts for kids with an interest in minibeasts (insects, spiders, and other arthropods). While Minibeast World is produced with 6 to 11 year old youth in mind, it is also used successfully by parents with children as young as 4 and by teachers and youth group leaders. It contains interesting articles, stories, poems, insect lore, trivia, illustrations and cartoons, book and resource reviews, and activity and coloring sheets.

CyberBugs Minibeast e-Magazine is intended for school aged youth (10 and up) and adults (including educators). CyberBugs is a monthly e-mail publication that features minibeast information (feature article), bugtionary, trivia, project and activity ideas, interactive bug quiz, and humor. Content may be used by subscribers in the course of their personal studies, but all other non-commercial and commercial uses would require written permission from the Young Entomologists' Society. (Note: since this periodical is sent electronically, you MUST have and maintain a valid e-mail address in order to receive this publication! What if you don't currently have internet/e-mail access? Not to worry - you can actually get FREE internet and/or e-mail access from a variety of sources which would allow you to receive this electronic publication. The biggest is Juno (call 800-TRY-JUNO or click http://www.juno.com). Other free services include NetZero, iFreedom, MSN Hotmail, Eudora, or Yahoo. Y.E.S. QUARTERLY, an international journal of amateur entomology intended for older youth and adult amateur entomologists, was discountinued in 2004. It contained a wide variety of articles on outdoor projects, field notes, observations of insect habits and behavior, rearing and collecting techniques, information on identifying insects, insects and computers, care of insect and spider collections, book and resource reviews, and much, much more. Many of the best issues are still available for purchase as BACK ISSUES (see link below).

Y.E.S. NewsBulletin is an informational newsletter for Y.E.S. members and other supporters. It contains information on Society business and happenings, special events and enrichment opportunities, new books, videos, and software, new Y.E.S. products and services, and much more. Y.E.S. members are encouraged to send in information on educational events (bug days, insect fairs, lectures, museum exhibits, etc.) and enrichment opportunities (jobs, scholarships, volunteer opportunities, etc.) so that it can be shared with all members.
The Young Entomologists' Society also publishes a Special Publication Series that features handbooks of special interest to young people, teachers, and amateur entomologists. For information on availability and current prices, contact Y.E.S. headquarters or visit the Minibeast Merchandise Mall.
Project B.U.G.S. (Level I). A complete manual for teaching young people (ages 3 to 12) about insects; in fact, the acronym "B.U.G.S." stands for Better Understanding of the Great Sixleggers! Includes teaching goals and techniques, special needs of youth, 14 insect study lesson topics, hundreds of project and activity suggestions, resource lists, and references.
Bug Club Leader Guide. A concise guide to starting and running your own local bug club. Includes tips for working with young people, teaching techniques, meeting and activity suggestions, and a resource list. The Insect Identification Guide. This guide makes learning insect identification easy! Includes basic classification and identification methods, essential insect anatomy and biology, key recognition features for important insect orders and families (including immatures and aquatic insects), cross-referenced lists to insect common and scientific names, and resource materials.
Organizing Bug Days and Insect Fairs. This manual shows how to organize a "bug day" or "insect fair" at a park, nature center, museum, school, or daycare center. Covers everything from initial planning to followup after the event is over. Features hundreds of planning tips, activity ideas, resources, and an extensive bibliography. Beginner's Guide to Observing and Collecting Insects. Here is the detailed information and practical tips needed by beginning and novice entomologists wanting to study the fascinating world of insects. eManual Software Series
The Young Entomologists' Society also publishes an eManual Software Series that features CD-ROM handbooks of special interest to young people, teachers, and amateur entomologists. Minibeast Sciences Resource Finder. This directory, formerly the International Entomology Resource Guide, provides the names, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail and websites for more than 1200 individuals, businesses and organizations that provide services and supplies that support learning and investigation on macroinvertebrates (minibeasts). Also includes a comprehensive list of butterfly houses, insects zoos, and field stations worldwide. Currently only available online (at no charge) to Y.E.S. members.
Digital Guide to Insects, Spiders and Other Arthropods of North America. This software makes it possible to have a digital (virtual) insect and spider museum right on your own computer! Detailed information, including descriptions, photo images, and identification keys, is presented for 7 classes, 35 orders and 165 families of arthropods (with emphasis on the insects). It's perfect for Science Olympiad participants, 4-H entomology club members, and just about anyone who wants to learn how to identification the insects, spiders and other arthropods of North America. Also available in a Special Edition which includes a library of an additional 434 digital photographs of insects, spiders and their relatives.
Caring for Insect Livestock: An Insect Rearing Manual. This manual provides complete information and "tips" for keeping 60 different insects and related arthropods in captivity.
