This design is 8" round. I have painted it on a wood plate,
but it could be painted on a box lid or adapted to any number of surfaces.

SUPPLIES
8" Round Plate (or any other 8" round surface), sanding pad, folded piece of brown paper bag, stylus, transfer paper

Delta Ceramcoat Paints - Varnishes - Antiquing Gel - Crackle Finish - Matte Spray
Stonewedge Green, Caucasian Flesh, Ivory, Hammered Iron, Dark Burnt Umber, Rainforest Green, Blue Spruce, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Candy Bar Brown
Delta Ceramcoat Clear Satin Varnish, Delta Ceramcoat Dark Brown Antiquing Gel, Delta Ceramcoat Fine Crackle Finish (Two Step), Delta Ceramcoat Matte Interior Spray Varnish

Eagle Brushes:
Eagle Azure Series: Round 525-3; Shader 515-8;
Eagle Millennium Series: Shader 715-20; Round 725-10
Eagle Golden Taklon: Script Liner 50-1
Misc: Foam brush, synthetic bristle brushes (to apply two step crackle finish)

One of the greatest tips I have picked up from an Internet painting list is to use a folded piece of brown paper bag to sand between coats of paint - it gives an incredibly soft, satiny feel to your project.

PREPARATION / PAINTING:
I don’t seal most of my wood. Basecoat the top of the plate Stonewedge Green. When dry, transfer the horizon line and the clouds.

Sky: Float Caucasian Flesh over horizon.
Paint some Caucasian Flesh clouds across sky and then paint Ivory on top of the clouds.
Apply a wash of Burnt Umber and wipe away with a folded paper towel.
Ground and Ocean: Paint small hill on the right Hammered Iron; float Ivory at the top, Dark Burnt Umber along the bottom.
Paint the ocean Rainforest Green; float Blue Spruce along bottom and left side of ocean.
Paint the front hill Hammered Iron. Float Ivory along the top and the right side, lifting the brush as you float to create a ‘choppy’ look.
Float Dark Burnt Umber on the left side of the hill, using the same ‘choppy’ float.

Transfer lighthouse, ship, and trees.
Trees: Paint trunks Burnt Umber. Line along outside Dark Burnt Umber, along inside Ivory. Paint leaves Hammered Iron; accent bottom of leaves with watered down Black.
Lighthouse: Shade under lighthouse Dark Burnt Umber. Paint lighthouse and front of house Burnt Sienna; paint side of house Candy Bar Brown. Shade left side of lighthouse Candy Bar Brown from top to bottom; shade Black on the side of the house and on the lighthouse where it is behind the house. Shade right side of house and lighthouse Caucasian Flesh, floating it heavier in some areas that in others. Paint roof, windows, and lighthouse bars Black. Shade right side of windows/door and top of roofs Ivory.

Ship: Paint mast and boat Burnt Umber; shade with Dark Burnt Umber; line with Ivory to highlight. Paint flag Burnt Sienna; accent bottom of flag with Black. Paint sails one coat of Ivory. Shade left and bottom of each sale with Burnt Umber, then a smaller float of Dark Burnt Umber. Paint over the shading with one watered down coat of Ivory. Side load your #8 flat and ‘slip slap’ waves on top of the ocean and across the ocean at certain points.

FINISHING:
Paint the back of plate and the rim Candy Bar Brown. Apply Step 1 of Crackle Finish - wait for it to dry according to instructions (about 20 minutes). Apply Step 2 of Crackle Finish. Let sit for at least 12 hours. When dry, spray with Matte spray. Use a soft cloth or paper towels to Antiquing Gel, using enough force to get into crevices between the cracks. (If antiquing is too dark, dampen a foam brush and brush over the plate, then wipe with a paper towel. When dry, finish by spraying with matte spray.
