The revised and expanded edition of
It's Yo-Yo Time! (3rd edition)
by "Professor Yo-Yo" (Stuart
F. Crump Jr., editor, Yo-Yo Times newsletter) has been published.
The first edition was published in 1995.
It's Yo-Yo
Time! is subtitled, "Professor
Yo-Yo's Book of Yo-Yo Tricks and Stories, New and Old---300 new yo-yo tricks
from the pages of Yo-Yo Times newsletter."
In addition to reprinting all of the yo-yo tricks that have appeared in YYT
since the first issue in 1988, as well as the complete text and illustrations
of The Bluebook of
Yo, the book includes stories and
articles relating to the yo-yo. A few of the chapters are entitled: "A Brief
History of the Yo-Yo"; "Inventing New Yo-Yo Tricks"; "I'm Yo-kay, You're
Yo-kay"; "The Perfect Toy for All Ages"; "Ecce Homo Yo-Yo!"; "Adding the
Yo-Yo to Your Juggling Act"; "The Fun Way to Cope With Stress: Just Say Yo!";
"How to Travel Through Time"; "Reach for the TOP!"; "When You Blow It"; "Appendix
of Sources"; and an "Index of Tricks."
New chapters added in the second edition include: "The Story of Yo-Yo, the
Christmas Elf--or--How the Yo-Yo Got Its Name;" "How to Run a Yo-Yo Program
at Your Summer Camp;" "How to Customize Your Yo-Yo;" "The Art of Showmanship;"
and "Only in America."
Perhaps the major difference between the first and revised editions is that
many of the new tricks in the new volume are illustrated with line drawings
by the author's daughter,
Jodi ("Yodi")
Crump.
Primarily because of the illustrations and the new material, the new volume
comprises 146 pages, up from 108 in the first edition.
Several chapters are in the form of short stories about a young boy of the
1950s and early 1960s and his frequent encounters over the years with the
yo-yo man.
