| Mask madman ZARCO GUERRERO brings
ancient archetypes to life in this freaked-out and extremely funny folly featuring a
curious cast of crazy hand carved characters. As a performance piece "Face to
Face" is a maniacal one-man masked drama that mirrors the mystery of the mind and
heart in a myridad of fantastic faces. Zarco wears several of his masks to conceal and
reveal the human nature of man. Don't miss Indio, Nerd, Rasta and many other characters.
All masks are original works of art by Zarco. Zarco, a native Arizonan,
is a mask maker, muralist, sculptor, painter, musician, and community arts advocate. He
has exhibited throughout Mexico and the U.S. In 1984 his art was the subject of a one-hour
documentary on P.B.S. entitled "The Mask of El Zarco". As a sculptor, Zarco was
awarded the Japan Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and spent a year in
Kyoto studying Japanese Noh mask art form. Zarco has a love of music. He is the
founder of Zúm Zúm Zúm, a Latin and world-beat band performing around the valley.
In Face to Face, Zarco has blended Japanese, Balinese,
and Chicano techniques into this play to create his own unique style of performance art.
