Le Dernier Combat

Article about Le Dernier Combat, from Starlog Magazine.

Film Facts

  • Premiered in 1983; 93 minutes long.
  • Shot in Panavision, 2.35:1 scope.
  • This is Luc Besson's first film. It developed from a short he made called L'Avant Dernier.
  • The movie tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world. The atmosphere is such that no one can talk; every day is a fight for one's life as everyone is out to survive. The movie is shot in gritty black and white, in scope (very rare for a director's first feature to be shot in scope. Besson, historically, has been quite fond of the scope ratio, and he has shot all of his films in scope except The Fifth Element, which was shot in Super35 and projected in the Scope aspect ratio of 2.35:1.)
  • The film was co-written by Pierre Jolivet, who plays the main character. Jolivet was given a special "thanks" in the credits of The Fifth Element - for what I do not know.
  • The film was critically acclaimed around the world, however this remains a cult film to this day.
  • Main Cast:
    Pierre Jolivet as "the Man"
