The Cajun Grocer **

The reason for this email is to share with you our new site. We specialize
in e-commerce offering authentic Louisiana products: Cajun & Creole food
and Cajun & Zydeco music. In fact, you can listen to Cajun, Swamp Pop and
Zydeco as you shop on CajunGrocer.com. We would love for you to look at our
site and hope that you find it to be something of value, particularly to the
displaced Louisiana folks in your area. If so, would it be possible to have
us on your site with a link to CajunGrocer.com?

Les Sisters is a little hole-in-the-wall place serving great chicken, ribs,
and cajun food. Their gumbo and jambalaya will add some spice to your life,
and their bread pudding with whisky sauce was the best I've had outside of
New Orleans! It's worth going out of your way for. My friends and I
practically took over the restaurant for a friend's birthday party, and the
management was nothing but gracious. The owner is the son of the two women
who started the restaurant (and they weren't sisters).

Angelina's (or Angel Lena's) is down the street from the Sherman Oaks
Galleria. They offer a varied soul food menu. I haven't been there lately,
but I enjoyed their meat loaf, and chicken and biscuits. Their sides aren't
too bad, either.

Roux-based, thickened with either okra and/or file (the powdered leaves of the sassafras tree), gumbo is a rich, spicy stew with as many different recipes as there are cooks who make it.

 * Uncle Darrow's: Every Friday and Saturday, this small cafe makes its own tasty file gumbo with shrimp, chicken, chicken sausage and blue crab. (Gumbo, $9.) Uncle Darrow's Cajun Creole Eatery, 5301 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles,

* The Gumbo Pot: Sit outside in the Farmer's Market and enjoy either the seafood gumbo, with shrimp and crab meat, or the gumbo yaya, with andouille sausage, chicken and shrimp. They're both made with both okra and file powder and served with rice (on top of the gumbo), salad and corn bread. (Gumbo, $5.50.) The Gumbo Pot, Farmers Market, 6333 W. 3rd St, Los Angeles,

* Harold & Belle's: In Jefferson Park, try this seafood file gumbo chock-full of shrimp, ham, sausage, crab and chicken. Served with rice and French bread. (Gumbo, small $9.50; large, $14.75.) Harold & Belle's, 2920 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles,
