Course Comments for Champions Club at Summerfield

I would liken this course to the Golden Bear Club at Hammock Creek in terms of difficulty. 4 sets of tees ranging from 5000 to 6800 yards. Wide landing areas on most of the holes for an errant driver. It's a great place to take a high handicapper or a beginner, except watch out for the tricky Fazio greens. Many of the greens are very undulated. Also quite a few water hazards. Relatively flat course. Each hole meanders thru this tropical woodland and wildlife area and you seldom catch a glimpse of any of the other holes on the course. Several long wooden bridges connect one hole with another over the marshy areas. A very, very long walk without a cart. Most of the tees are elevated which will give you a good view of the scenery including bald eagle nesting areas. The signature hole is #17, a picturesque 210-yard, par 3. We played daily fee golf here one day in July of '99 for $22 each and must have played 45 holes before we got tired of this place. About the only bad thing I can say about this course is that because of the way it is layed out, not being able to see the adjacent holes, it can be a hard course to memorize and a tiny bit monotonous. Usually I can recall most of the holes of a golf course after the 2nd or 3rd time I've played it. But not this course. We would have gone back to this course the following year in a New York minute except that we were told all of the greens were being repaired (July 2000) and temporary greens had been set up. Be sure to check the local newspapers for discount coupons to this course. Summertime rates as low as $22 to play as many holes as you have the energy to play.

I played a round here on 7/3/02 for $20. It was an afternoon special they had been running frequently in the paper. Was interrupted by a thunderstorm after 3 holes but eventually played a drizzley 18. It was cartpath only that day but I have to say the course was in fine shape. Greens were as nice as those at Lost Lake that I had played 2 weeks earlier. Only bad thing that I can say about Summerfield now is that the scenic ride between holes has been spoiled. There were a number of major construction projects going on. Land between holes had been leveled in preparation of numerous homesites. No longer a "scenic adventure" between holes at this course, but the course itself was in great shape.

Played this course on 11/2/02 for $20 through eFloridaGOLF.com. Beautiful course in great shape. Abundant wildlife and great scenery in spite of many new houses going up.

Just for everyone's info, this course appears to be in financial distress. Rumor is that the owners want to sell out to Martin County much like the Saints Course was sold by Club Med to the City of PSL. Go to "Important News" and see my message from 11/30/02 for the link to the website article for all the details.

Played here Sat 3/6/04 - Course in great shape. Greens were smooth, they rolled true & fast. Prices are reasonable for Mid-Season. Debbie Alfrey, Head Golf Professional, was very helpful and friendly as was the entire Staff. We played late afternoon and there was a beautiful sunset beginning as we rode back to the clubhouse. Lots of scenery still left even though there are more houses than ever.

Mr Howard: Thanks for catching that the Champions Club @ Summerfield website is out of commission. I was not aware of it until you mentioned it. I made numerous searches on the internet to find a replacement website and have found none. Will post a message here if & when I do find one.

We recently played the course (with a coupon it was $82.00 for 2 players) and the round took about 5 1/2 hours! They just crammed too many players on the course. So even with a coupon, we won't play this course again

Played the Champions Club mid Oct. 2006 and found the course to be in GREAT shape. It was quite at the time and our 2 foursesomes made it around in a little over 4 hours. I found the new management to be very freindly and the rates were excellent (under $30 per golfer with cart). This course is highly recommended by all in our group!

Played on Sunday morning 12/9/2007 for $30.00 using GolfNow.com website. Very nice course but you better hit it staight and long as there are many forced carries - front 9 tougher than back nine. Greens were OK but not as fast as Florida Club or Hammock Creek. Very enjoyable round of golf except for the fact that they wanted $35.00 for a replay rate. We opted for the pool back at the PGA Village.
